✨ Why Summer in Osaka?
Summer in Osaka is fiery. This is not just due to the heat, but also because Osaka hosts Japan's most passionate festival — Tenjin Matsuri — and the breathtaking Yodogawa Fireworks Festival. During this season, the entire city seems to turn into a giant stage. Ancient shrines parade on land and river, while fireworks explode in the sky, fleeting but incredibly vibrant. Staying at Ikikyo Inn, you're not just a spectator, but an active participant in this summer extravaganza.
📅 Summer Festival Calendar
- Aizen Matsuri: June 30 - July 2 (The opening of summer festivals, a prayer for good luck)
- Tenjin Matsuri: July 24 - July 25 (One of Japan's top three festivals, not to be missed)
- Yodogawa Fireworks Festival: Early August (usually the first Saturday)
🔥 Core Experience: Tenjin Matsuri (7.24 - 7.25)
This isn’t just a festival; it’s a two-day water and land celebration.
1. Rikutogyo (Land Procession) 🚶♂️
- Time: July 25, starting at 15:30
- Highlights: Over 3,000 people dressed in Heian period court costumes escort the sacred shrine through the streets. The colorful costumes and the drumbeats make you feel as though you’ve traveled back to ancient Japan.
2. Funatogyo (Boat Procession) 🚣
- Time: July 25, starting at 18:00
- Highlights: This is the climax of Tenjin Matsuri. Over 100 boats adorned with lights float on the Okawa River, and the bonfires are reflected on the water, synchronizing with the fireworks in the sky.
3. Dedication Fireworks 🎇
- Time: July 25, 19:30 - 21:00
- Highlights: Around 5,000 fireworks are launched as an offering to the gods. The most special are Osaka's unique "Ume" fireworks, which bloom into the shape of plum blossoms in the night sky, symbolizing good fortune.
🎐 The Best Place to Stay for the Summer Festival
Osaka’s summer is as passionate as fire. After experiencing the bustling and noisy festivals and fireworks, the most you need is a cool and quiet place to rest.
Ikikyo Inn’s Summer Advantages

⚠️ Host’s “Summer Survival Guide”
- Heat Prevention: Osaka’s summer can be extremely hot. Make sure to bring a fan, small towel, and enough water. The “cooling spray” available at convenience stores is a lifesaver.
- Crowd Warning: After the event, stations will be extremely crowded. We recommend buying return tickets in advance (or topping up your ICOCA card) and leaving 15 minutes before the fireworks end. Alternatively, enjoy a drink at a nearby izakaya and avoid peak crowds.
- Restroom Access: Convenience store restrooms near the event site are often closed or have long lines. It’s best to use the restroom at the station beforehand.
- Trash Handling: Please bring all festival trash (like takoyaki boxes) to the designated trash collection points, or take it back to the inn for proper disposal.
